Expanding Multi-Messenger Astrophysics
This Focus group, led by Prof. Laura Cadonati and Prof. Elisa Resconi, advances multi-messenger astrophysics by integrating gravitational wave, neutrino, and electromagnetic observations to investigate the universe’s most extreme phenomena, from neutron star and black hole mergers to potential dark matter candidates. The group leverages TUM’s established strengths in neutrino astronomy and particle physics, now enhanced with gravitational wave expertise. A key aim is to develop sustainable, scalable computing solutions for large-scale experiments and to foster collaborations across physics, computing, and machine learning. By combining expertise from diverse fields, the Focus Group seeks to uncover new connections between cosmic messengers, deepen understanding of the fundamental processes shaping the universe, and establish TUM as a leading center for comprehensive multi-messenger research, enabling discoveries that drive innovation in astrophysics and scientific computing.
