The Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize is one of the most prestigious research awards in Germany, named after the German polymath Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (1646–1716). It is awarded annually by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) to recognize exceptional achievements in research across all disciplines, including the humanities, natural sciences, life sciences, and engineering.
Daniel Rückert is Alexander von Humboldt Professor for AI in Medicine and Healthcare at TUM where he directs the Institute for AI and Informatics in Medicine. He is also a Professor in the Department of Computing at Imperial College London.
Prof. Daniel Rückert has developed pioneering methods with which AI algorithms can generate particularly informative images from computer tomography or magnetic resonance imaging, analyze them and interpret them for improved medical diagnostics. Supported by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, TUM was able to bring the top scientist from Imperial College London to Munich in 2020.
