On June 1, 2022, Dr. Thomas Koehler (Philips Innovative Technologies; Alumnus Rudolf Diesel Industry Fellow) will talk about “Dark-Field X-ray Imaging: An Evolving Technique in the Century-Old History of X-ray Imaging.”
Abstract: X-ray imaging is a mature and widely used method for the diagnosis of lung diseases, even though its sensitivity is limited for many diseases, e.g., chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and COVID-19. Dark-field X-ray imaging is a novel interferometric X-ray technology that can overcome this limitation. In this talk, the technology will be outlined and recent clinical results obtained using the world-wide first and only clinical prototype system at the Klinikum rechts der Isar will be discussed. Finally, an outlook to the translation of the dark-field x-ray imaging concept to Computed Tomography will be given.
