The new head of the Institute for Advanced Study at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) is Prof. Michael Molls, Professor Emeritus of Radiotherapy and Radiological Oncology and spokesperson of the TUM Emeriti of Excellence. With effect from April 1, 2020, he took over as head of the institute from Prof. Ernst Rank, who has very successfully built up the international reputation of the TUM-IAS over the last five years.
The TUM Institute for Advanced Study (TUM-IAS) was established as a core element of the future strategy of the TUM in the first round of the Excellence Initiative (2006-2012). It provides outstanding scientific talents from all over the world with the necessary freedom to develop and realize innovative and high-risk research ideas together with the best people at TUM by means of a fellowship program.
"The IAS should develop into the central catalyst for the realization of the 'TUM Innovation Networks' envisaged in the current TUM AGENDA 2030", says Prof. Molls. Within TUM, he wants to establish the IAS even stronger than before as a hub and platform for the realization of creative ideas, and of sustainability.
