Title: Towards fundamental understanding of electrochemical interfaces in Li-ion battery electrolytes.
Date: September 29, 2017 ǀ 13:00
Location: TUM-IAS Auditorium (ground floor), Lichtenbergstraße 2 a, 85748 Garching
Speaker: Dusan Strmcnik Materials Science Division, Argonne National Laboratory, 9700 S. Cass Ave., Argonne, IL 60439, email: strmcnik(at)anl.gov
Organization:
TUM-IAS and Rudolf Diesel Industry Fellow Dr. Peter Lamp (BMW Group)
Dr. Strmcnik is Staff scientist at the Materials Science Division, Argonne National Laboratory, IL, USA. Dr. Strmcnik research experience covers the following fields:
- Surface science: (i) Development of vibrational spectroscopy, microscopy and electrochemical methods to determine correlations between the interfacial microscopic properties and the macroscopic kinetic rates of electrochemical reactions. (ii) Investigation of the effect of impurities on long term electrocatalytic performance.
- Multi-functional electrochemical interfaces for energy conversion and energy storage systems: (i) tuning EC activity and stability by tailoring surface structure, near surface composition and electronic properties of metals, metal-oxides/metals, and metal oxides materials; (ii) tuning selectivity by molecular patterning; (iii) tuning EC activity and stability by tailoring the properties of double layer components.
- Technology developments: (i) PEM, alkaline and phosphoric acid fuel cells; (ii) acid-based and alkaline-based electrolyzers; anode and cathode materials for Li-air and Li ion batteries; environmental electrochemistry; and metal deposition.
