Prof. Ernst Rank and the TUM-IAS team invite the scientists of TUM and their guests for coffee each Wednesday! Just come over to the TUM-IAS after lunch between 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. and have a coffee with us, meet other scientists and listen from time to time to a short talk (10-15 mins) on a recent major TUM publication or issue – aimed specifically at a non-expert audience.
On November 14, 2018, Prof. Michael Hensel (Technical University of Vienna; TUM August-Wilhelm Scheer Visiting Professor) will give a talk entitled “Embedded Architectures – Rethinking Architecture and Environment Relations”: Construction impacts upon our planet at a momentous rate, consuming vast resources in terms of material and energy and also in terms of the bio-physical environment. Hence, two questions arise: [i] can architecture be in the service of the bio-physical environment; and, in extension, [ii] can architecture principally be conceived of as not in conflict with, but rather as an integral embedded part of the bio-physical environment. The talk will introduce research aimed at setting out approaches to these questions based on specific studies for urban, peri-urban and rural areas that are based on an interdisciplinary and projective research-by-design approach.
