Scientists Meet Scientists – TUM-IAS Wednesday Coffee Talk by Prof. Volker Sieber: “Fusing Hydrogen Economy and Bioeconomy for higher sustainability”
Events, WCT |

On July 5, 2023, Prof. Volker Sieber (Chemistry of Biogenic Resources) will talk about “Fusing Hydrogen Economy and Bioeconomy for higher sustainability.”
Abstract:
Mitigating climate change is rightly regarded as one of humankind’s most important challenges of our time. Therefore CO2 capturing and usage as source for the production of energy, chemicals and fuels will be prominent in the future. With Power-to-X technologies CO2 to methanol conversion using green energy raises the sustainable value of CO2 derived methanol and availability to the next level. For the valorization of CO2 derived methanol we established a multi enzymatic cascade using ten enzymes to produce the amino acid L-alanine as a case study for the production of proteins simply from solar energy. With another case study we show, that Hydrogen coproduction is possible in the conversion of biomass to bio-based chemicals.
