Michel Géradin

Short CV

1962-1967: Engineering degree in Physics from University of Liège (ULg).

1972: PhD in Applied Sciences at ULg.

1968-1979: Research fellow from the National Belgian Foundation (research area: structural dynamics).

1973-1974: Visiting Scholar at Stanford University.

1979-1997: Professor / Full professor (1987) at ULg., Head of the Aerospace Laboratory (LTAS) and chair holder in structural dynamics.

1986-1997: Visiting Professor at the University of Colorado (Boulder).

1997-2010: Professeur Extraordinaire at ULg. 

1997-2010: Unit Head of the European Laboratory for Structural Assessment (ELSA) of JRC (European Commission, Ispra, Italy).

2010: retirement, continuation of scientific research activity as ULg emeritus professor.
Author / co-author of about 130 scientific papers and of 2 internationally distributed reference books on structural dynamics and on flexible multibody dynamics. 

From 1968, co-author of the SAMCEF finite element software. Co-founder in 1986 of Samtech SA, European leader company in finite element software for structural mechanics (today, part of SIEMENS PLM). Member of the Administration Board and scientific consultant to Samtech SA up to 2013.

2014-2016: Humboldt Research Awardee at TUM

  • Currently: computational methods in structural dynamics, kinematics and dynamics of flexible multibody systems, finite element analysis

  • In the past: experimental vibrations, aeroelasticity, fluid-structure interaction, analysis and identification of rotating machinery, dynamic model updating, parallel processing in structural mechanics, seismic engineering, structural acoustics, impact dynamics
