Arthur Konnerth, professor for neuroscience at the Technical University of Munich and Alumnus of the TUM-IAS Carl von Linde Senior Fellowship, has been honored with a senior research professorship for neuroscience from the Hertie Foundation.
The main goals of this professorship are to maintain and increase the potential and knowledge of highly experienced excellent scientists, as well as to promote early-career scientists in the same field. It contains a grant of up to one million euros, so the awardee can concentrate solely on research for the final years of his career.
The prize acknowledges Konnerth’s achievements in the field of neuroscience, especially in visualization and characterization of single neurons and synapses in the mammal’s brain. Further research will particularly be done for better understanding of incurable diseases such as Alzheimer’s.
