Inclusion and Diversity in Physics

The Focus group on Inclusion and Diversity in Physics involves Anna Boyksen Fellow Dr. Sara Lucatello (INAF Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova) and her Host Prof. Laura Fabbietti (TUM). It aims at examining the conscious and unconscious biases affecting the selection and evaluation systems in natural sciences, and in particular in Physics and Astronomy in Germany, and implements initiatives aimed at improving the climate of the natural science departments at TUM and other research institutions in Munich. Creating a fair system and a welcoming environment, which allows access to and advancement in a scientific career based only on talent and merit is a fundamental step in improving diversity, which is linked to innovation. This is of crucial importance at this time, as the next decade will see a large influx of second-generation immigrants  in postsecondary education, due to the still ongoing migratory wave that started a few years ago.
