Professor Ensenauer studied medicine at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg, Germany, where she received her doctoral degree in Clinical Chemistry/Pathobiochemistry. She completed her internship and residency in Pediatrics including subspecialty training in Metabolic Disease & Nutrition at the University Children‘s Hospital, Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, Germany. From 2001-2004, she was a Post-Doc Research Fellow in Molecular Biology & Biochemical Genetics at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, MN (USA). She then joined the Research Center of the Dr. von Hauner Children’s Hospital at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) München, Germany, where she established an experimental research group with a focus on early-life origins and primary prevention of childhood obesity and associated metabolic diseases. She initiated a large prospective mother-child cohort to study the long-term effects of maternal obesity in pregnancy on the development of overweight in the offspring (PEACHES cohort, www.peaches-studie.de). Since 2014, Prof. Ensenauer is University Professor for Experimental Pediatrics and Metabolism at the University Children’s Hospital, Heinrich Heine University, Düsseldorf, Germany. She is also still affiliated with the LMU München.

Research Interests
Early origins of childhood obesity, fetal programming, nutrient-sensing mechanisms, metabolism, metabolite profiling, metabolic & nutritional medicine, obesity prevention.
Professor Ensenauer’s main research interests are the study of early-life origins and risks of obesity/metabolic disease, nutritionally induced perinatal programming and involved nutrient-sensing mechanisms, aiming at developing obesity-protective strategies.
