Short CV
Zohar Yosibash is a professor of mechanical engineering at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Beer-Sheva, Israel (since 1995) and the Head of the Computational Mechanics Laboratory. He received his B.Sc. in Aeronautical Engineering in 1987 from the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, his M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics in 1991 from Tel-Aviv University in Israel and his D.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering in 1994 from Washington University in St. Louis, USA. Zohar spent a year as a visiting assistant professor at the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering at Washington University during 1994-1995, and a year as a visiting associate professor at the Division of Applied Mathematics at Brown University, Providence, RI, USA during 2002-2003. During 2003-2007 he held a visiting associate professorship at Brown University. Since March 2006 he serves as a member of advisory board of the Bavarian graduate school of computational engineering.
Selected Awards
- Feb 2009, Toronto prize for the “best researcher'” in the faculty of engineering, at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Beer-Sheva, Israel
- Aug 2002 - July 2003, IBM distinguished professorship at the Div.of Applied Math, Brown University, Providence, RI, USA
Research Interests
Zohar's recent topic of research is computational biomechanics (high and p-version finite element methods) with emphasis on bone mechanics and the mechanical response of blood vessels. Other topics of research are the mathematical and numerical analysis of singularities in two and three dimensional domains and their connection with failure initiation and propagation, and the performance of p-version FE methods for nonlinear problems in solid mechanics.
