Short CV
Matthias Batzill is currently a tenured Associate Professor of Physics at the University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa, USA. He has received his Diploma degree in Physics from the University of Göttingen in 1996 and his PhD from the University of Newcastle, UK, in 2000. After two post-docs at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles and Tulane University in New Orleans, he joined the faculty of USF in 2006. His current research interests are mainly in oxide surfaces, photocatalysis, materials science of graphene and other 2D materials. His research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, Department of Energy, and the Office of Naval Research in the USA, attracting over 3 Mio. US$ in funding. His over 80 peer-reviewed articles received more than 680 citations in 2013 alone and has a current H-index of 28 (ISI citation index). He also gave invited talks at the American Chemical Society (ACS), American Physical Society (APS), and Materials Research Society (MRS) meetings as well as at many specialized conferences/workshops, universities, and national labs.
