Short CV
Wilhelm (Willi) Auwärter studied Physics at the University of Zurich (1993-1999). After a stay at the Brookhaven National Lab and the Diploma he started his doctoral research in 1999 and received his PhD from the University of Zurich in 2003. Subsequently he worked as postdoctoral fellow at the University of British Columbia and at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. Today he is a research associate at the Technical University Munich.
Selected Awards
2004-2005, Fellowship for prospective researchers from the Swiss National Science foundation
Research Interests
Wilhelm Auwärter’s current research focuses on nanoscale science on surfaces. Combining scanning probe microscopy and spectroscopy with complementary non-local methods he addresses the geometric and electronic structure of functional molecular modules and their self-assembly into supramolecular architectures. He plans to implement complex materials like transition metal oxides, ultra-thin insulating films and half-metals as substrates for such low-dimensional organic molecular nanostructures in order to deliberately tune and engineer the functional properties of these systems.
