IAS Fellows among the world's most cited scientists

The frequency of citations of a study is a good indicator of research quality. To determine the "Highly Cited Researchers," the U.S. company Clarivate each year evaluates the "Web of Science" database it operates, which records scientific publications from a broad range of subjects.

Each researcher selected has authored multiple Highly Cited Papers™ which rank in the top 1% by citations for their field(s) and publication year in the Web of Science™ over the past decade. However, citation activity is not the sole selection indicator. A preliminary list based on citation activity is then refined using qualitative analysis and expert judgement.

The evaluation's new edition shows the scientists cited most frequently in their respective fields. Researchers who are cited particularly often in different fields are listed in the "Cross-Field" category. In total, the list comprises around 7,125 people in no particular order, including the following TUM-IAS fellows:

Ib Chorkendorff (Chemistry), DTU Copenhagen

Naomi Halas (Material Science), Rice University

Laura Herz (Cross-Field), University of Oxford

Peter Nordlander (Material Science), Rice University

Melanie Schirmer (Crossfield), Technische Universität München

Yang Shao-Horn (Chemistry), MIT

Yang Shao-Horn (Environment and Ecology), MIT

Thaddeus S. Stappenbeck (Crossfield), Washington University.
