Reiner Rummel

Short CV

Reiner Rummel is former head of TUM’s Institute for Astronomical and Physical Geodesy. He received his engineering diploma in 1970 from Technische Universität München. He spent four years, 1970-74, as Research Assistant at Technical University of Darmstadt. 1974 he was awarded his Ph.D. degree at Technical University of Darmstadt (dissertation on “stochastic series and functions in physical geodesy”). From 1974 to 1976 he had post-doc position at the Department of Geodetic Science at Ohio State University, Columbus. In 1976 Rummel became a Research Scientist at the German Geodetic Research Institute in Munich. In 1978 he joined the Erdmessungskommission at the Bavarian Academy of Science as Research Scientist. From 1980 to 1993 he was professor and chair of physical geodesy at Delft University of Technology. He was dean of faculty of civil and geodetic engineering at TUM. Rummel was chairman of the Netherlands Geodetic Commission, member of the European Space Science Committee and member of the Earth Science Advisory Board of ESA. He is a permanent secretary of the German Geodetic Commission, a member of the ESA Mission Advisory Group for mission GOCE, chairman of the research committee on geodesy Bavarian Academy Sciences.
