Supramolecular Chemistry

The Focus Group of Rudolf Mößbauer Tenure Track Professor Job Boekhoven aims at developing and better understanding the self-assembly of molecules under non-equilibrium conditions. We particularly focus on dissipative (dynamic) self-assembly. We do so, because the resulting dissipative supramolecular materials have unique material properties, compared to classical equilibrium supramolecular materials. Moreover, we also foresee processes in these materials we typically associated with life, such as self-replication, self-selection or dynamic instabilities. Greater understanding of these life-like processes, especially in abiotic materials, can shine new light on the origin of life.
