On March 19, a documentary film on methane emission on our planet and associated dangers and risks was broadcast on the German TV station Bayerischer Rundfunk. In the film, Prof. Jia Chen, a former Rudolf Mößbauer Tenure Track Fellow, presented her research on methane emission in Munich. She explained her work at the Professorship of Environmental Sensing, including how the infrared spectrometers she uses work. As part of these measurements, Prof. Chen and her team have succeeded in measuring the significantly high methane emission at the world-famous Oktoberfest which takes place every year. She also used this technology in Hamburg in 2021.
Her research could serve as a cornerstone for a new way of looking at greenhouse emissions and environmental protection.
