Events, WCT, Seminar Series on Sustainability |
On January 31, 2024, Prof. Serhii Voitko (National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute,” Ukraine) will present the fourth talk in our Seminar Series of European Universities on Sustainability, an integral part of our Wednesday Coffee Talks. The talk is entitled “Sustainable development methodology as a tool for researching the state of countries and making decisions.”
Abstract
The sustainable development of a separate region or an entire country is determined by a system of indices of economic, social and ecological dimensions, and an index of human life safety. We will show the methodology developed by us for calculating the level of sustainable development by country. Analysis of databases of sustainable development indices provides an opportunity to study patterns and exceptional cases of countries' development. For a long time, sustainable development has become a tool for a significant amount of research on the economy, ecology and social spheres.
Sustainable development and its components are determined using these indices both quantitatively and qualitatively. The results of such an analysis are used to manage the development of regions, countries, and integration groups.
On the basis of the obtained results, the management of the countries can make balanced management decisions regarding the development of one or another sphere of activity. It is significant that on the basis of in-depth research, it is possible to conduct a foresight in the socio-economic sphere. Over a fifteen-year period of my own research, anomalies in the development of social systems have been revealed. You will be provided with the results of studies on the development of individual areas, countries and regions. You will receive information about possible armed conflicts that have already occurred or may occur in violation of the principles of sustainable development, namely the harmonized index.
We will consider the impact of Industry 4.0 on the development of society on the basis of sustainable development. Elements of the circular economy will be proposed because this economy began to develop precisely on the principles of sustainable development. The world is now on the brink of the third world war. This is a very big threat to humanity. We will try to discuss the possibilities and options for stopping this threat, based on the conceptual principles of sustainable development.
