Scientists Meet Scientists – TUM-IAS Wednesday Coffee Talk by Prof. Rupert Seidl: “Forest disturbance and resilience in a changing world”

Events, WCT |

On February 1, 2023, Prof. Rupert Seidl (Ecosystem Dynamics and Forest Management in Mountain Landscapes, TUM) will talk about “Forest disturbance and resilience in a changing world.”

Abstract:
Forest ecosystems around the world are changing rapidly because of ongoing changes in the climate system. One of the most profound changes are substantial increases in forest disturbances, i.e. pulses of tree mortality. The increasing frequency and severity of such disturbances has the potential to strongly alter the functioning of ecosystems. The talk will summarize the evidence for disturbance change with special focus on the situation in Europe, and elaborate how resilient forests are to changing disturbance regimes.
