Scientists Meet Scientists –TUM-IAS Wednesday Coffee Talk by Michael Paper: “Biosorption by cyanobacteria - Future potential for metal recovery from industrial wastewater”

Events, WCT |

On May 10, 2023, Michael Paper (Synthetic Biotechnology, TUM) will talk about Biosorption by cyanobacteria - Future potential for metal recovery from industrial wastewater.

Abstract: The accumulation of toxic metals in the environment caused by industrial effluents and mining operations is a growing concern. Conventional technologies for wastewater treatment have drawbacks, such as the generation of toxic sludge or high operational costs. In recent years, the utilization of biological materials for metal recovery in biosorption-based processes has been explored as a cheap and eco-friendly alternative. In that context, cyanobacterial biomass offers several advantages for potential applications in metal sequestration from wastewater.
